Digestive Aides
- Never eat when angry, depressed, bored, upset or exhausted.
- Sip warm water (or herbal digestion tea) with your meal to assist digestion. Never drink ice water or milk with you meal.
- Quiet while eating is best, conversation during the meal, loud music, or watching TV is a distraction to good digestion.
- Concentrate on chewing every bite 33-50 times. Digestion starts in the mouth.
- Eat only as much as would fit in your two hands cupped together.
- Eat fresh, local seasonal foods as much as possible.
- Avoid excessive sour or fermented foods, especially yeasted bread.
- Leave 3-6 hours between meals.
- Try to keep regular meal times. Finish dinner 2-4 hours before bed.
- Do not follow a meal with dessert, it disturbs digestion.
- Avoid sex, deep study or sleep for at least 2 hours after eating, especially in the evening.
- Fasting when tongue is heavily coated, urine is cloudy, bad breath, nausea or digestive upset or sense of constant fullness. Let body rest for 1/2 to 1 full day. Ingest only juices, vegetable broths, herbal teas or fruits.
- Giving thanks before, during and after the meal will serve each cell of your being.
